Earrings Through The Ages
It is thought that earrings date back to 3000 BC where they originated in Asia and appeared in 2 formats, one being the simple hoop earring and the other the more elaborate pendant earring.
The oldest earrings ever found by archaeologists were discovered in royal graves in Iraq and date back to around 2500 BC. Gold, silver and bronze hoop earrings have also been found dating back to 2000 BC in Crete. In those days it was customary to bury jewellery with the dead.
In 16th century in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt a type of earring called an earplug became fashionable and these fitted snugly into a wide stretched hole in the earlobe. This type of piercing is seen on the sculpture of Tutankhamen.
Poverty in the Dark ages meant that work with precious metals dwindled although some goldsmiths preserved designs that were to later emerge in 7th century Greece. The most popular earrings then there were the pendant type and they often featured a bird or likenesses of the gods Eros and Nike.
In the 2nd century during the Roman Empire, earrings became a popular way for rich women to show off their wealth and the use of precious gemstones in the jewellery also became more popular.
During the Middle Ages, earrings became less popular and practical due to the popularity of elaborate hairstyles and headdresses. In fact for a time it was considered immoral for respectable married woman not to have their heads covered in public.
In 16th century Italy, hairstyles changed with hair being swept away from the face leaving ears exposed although for another 100 years things stayed the same in England, Spain and France with the wearing of high collars keeping earrings out of fashion.
By the 17th century, earrings became very fashionable accessory for the well dressed lady across the whole of Europe. One of the most popular designs of those times were the very large heavy pendant type earrings called girandoles which were great favourites of Queen Victoria. These earrings required a substantial amount of precious metals and gemstones and so were very heavy, which meant that most people that wore them suffered from elongated earlobes.
Although earrings were popular with wealthy people throughout the ages, they were also popular with poorer people who adopted their own styles which were less elaborate and made from less expensive materials.
It wasn’t until the 20th century that earrings were completely revolutionised. Different fittings appeared such as screw and clip on as well as those for pierced ears and it also became the norm for women to wear earrings in the day and not just for special occasions. The 1960’s marked a massive change for the wearing of earrings when designs became completely unrestrained and it became common to see men also wearing earrings although most only usually wear one earring. Women began to collect earrings and with so many designs available the choices were endless.
Today the choice is even greater and the popularity of earrings increases with many people now having more than one set of piercings in which to display their jewellery. Modern materials such as titanium and different types of plastics have also become popular in the making of earrings because of their lightness, design possibilities and in the case of titanium because of its hypoallergenic qualities.
There is now a never ending choice of different types of earrings from modern trendy cheap and cheerful everyday earrings to the more expensive gold, silver or platinum earrings inlaid with diamonds and other precious gemstones.

[Top]How To Talk with Women – 5 Ways To Flirt With Humor
Just what is the very best way to speak to women? It’s bad enough that you’re pissing your shorts simply mustering the guts to speak to Ms. Cutey. Not to mention keeping up a conversation to keep her attracted! So what is the key to the best ways to talk with girls?
HUMOR! Women LOVE a man with a great sense of humor. Who doesn’t want to laugh, right? Getting a girl to giggle and laugh at your jokes (and not at you) makes sure that she is entertained in your presence, which will lead her wishing to spend more time with you.
The vital thing to bear in mind though is that while some girls can put up with and enjoy “guy humor,” most women would generally take offense to it. The secret here is to not make them awkward or upset them, but rather keep them all smiles and giggles and ENGAGED.
To assist you with that, check out these do’s for flirting with humor:
1. Do use imaginative misinterpretations.
The first policy when speaking to girls is to be alert, aware, and observant! Keep your eyes peeled and recognize the little things. Take a look at the way she dresses, accessories, hair style, and look. Observe her habits and the things she is doing and come up with smart, lighthearted jokes referencing any of these particulars. The way to do this is to put a brand-new spin on what typically would be something typical and mundane.
For instance, when going in to speak to the car insurance agent, You can ask (with a slightly naughty smile) “Are you the one who’s going to get me a brand-new car? I had my eye on the brand-new Benz … Essentially what you are doing is creatively misinterpreting her work and using it to flirt and create interest.
Likewise, when you go into Starbucks and spot a girl with an x-large coffee, you can ask if she’s trying to get over a hangover from last night. (Since coffee is supposed to help with hangovers!)
Your jokes must be lighthearted and slightly complementary. Never confuse joking and flirting with insulting her! Asking a girl drinking a huge cup of coffee if she’s attempting to get over a hangover is flirting. Asking her if she’s attempting to burn fat is an insult! Make certain you know the distinction.
2. Do remain relaxed and smile!
You don’t want to confuse a woman by looking serious while talking and flirting to her. When you crack a joke, the girl should know with absolute certainty that you’re flirting with her. By smiling, the woman will not 2nd guess your jokes and feel more at ease to laugh at them.
Appearing serious while joking can at times be mysterious and attractive to a girl, but it’s dangerous. You don’t want to risk anything with your first chance at flirting with a girl because if the joke doesn’t sit well with her, you might not get a second opportunity.
Also, you want to stay relaxed, calm, confident and make good eye contact. According to the Go First Concept, this will greatly enhance your odds with her. If you appear calm and relaxed, you appear confident and cool – qualities girls are attracted to.
[Top]DIY Wedding Beauty How To Look Great On A Small Budget
Theres no getting round it: weddings are expensive. Surveys suggest that the price of the average wedding has dropped since 2008, but can still run into tens of thousands of dollars. So its no surprise that so many brides and grooms are turning to DIY, or DIT (Do It Together) as its becoming known.
Doing things yourself for your wedding whether its arranging your own flowers or self-catering isnt just about saving money. Its also about putting your own personal touch on proceedings, so it feels like your celebration and not just another industrial wedding. This is particularly the case with your hair and beauty, as its important to look like yourself on your wedding day. If youre a bride hoping to DIY your hair and beauty, heres a few essential tips to bear in mind.
Doing your own wedding hair
There are two key elements to doing your own wedding hair: having confidence in your decisions and practising constantly to get your style right. Professional hairdressers can charge huge amounts for wedding hairstyles for a reason: they know what theyre doing and usually have several years experience to back it up. So if you want your hair to be perfect on your wedding day, its advisable to spend several days repeatedly putting together your hairstyle of choice before the morning arrives.
This is particularly important if youre putting your hair up. In order to avoid stress on the big day, try to keep things simple. Opt for a simple plait pinned up or a loose up do rather than a tiered hairstyle with extensions. Invest in a few important hair products but dont go overboard. Hair spray, for instance, will be essential to keep your style in place and you might need some mousse or wax to keep tendrils in place too.
Most importantly, youll need a friend or two to help you. Doing your hair on your own is tricky at the best of times. With friends around, youll not only have extra pairs of helping hands but also moral support if things go wrong.
Your make up on your wedding day
If youll be applying your own make up on your wedding day, practice and planning is just as important. First, think about the look youre going for. If youre wearing a traditional, floor-length white dress, perhaps youd prefer a classic look in natural and rosy hues. Alternatively, if your dress is more contemporary in style, you can afford to be a bit more creative with your make up.
Once youve decided on a colour palette and style you like, look at your existing range of make-up and see whats missing. Perhaps you dont have the exact shade of nail polish you want, or you need a new foundation. Visit a department store make up counter and tell them what youre looking for. Often, beauty experts at these counters will give you a complete makeover for a fee, which is offset against any purchases you make. Then, when you have the materials you need, practice repeatedly until youre confident that you can pull off the look stress-free on your wedding day. If youre still nervous or have an unsteady hand, make sure a friend or family member is on hand to help. And leave plenty of time too so you wont feel rushed if you make a mistake and have to start all over again.
